Today was recording day! Jay, Matt, Josh and I went into the studio at 10 a.m. today and came out having recorded three songs.
Our band is called Jay Dunphy and the Religion. (For those who may not know, Jay, Matt and I used to play in a band called The Moonshine Revellers. Now go buy our album.) We recorded this demo with Gilles Maillet, frontman for Ghost of Science, who also recorded the album we did with The Moonshine Revellers. The session went really well. It seemed to be a lot less stressful than the last time we recorded, probably a combination of greater experience and lowered expectations. Naturally I brought along my camera and took a few pictures. Hopefully Gilles will have it mixed within the next few days. I don’t know what will happen with it then, we’ll probably just hand copies out to bars. Maybe we’ll put a few tracks up on the website too.
Speaking of music, here’s your link for the week.
No, you can’t pick it up on FM. It’s a webzine published by the CBC. Its subject is “Music and Modern Media”, and it features everything from photography to poetry to underground bands, all backed up with a soundtrack from its sister site, www.newmusiccanada.com. The current issue features articles about Aesop Rock and Po’ Girl, how to leave your lover in 12 easy sofas, plus a series of still images shot on video (I can’t explain it, you’ll just have to go see them.) The site was recognized last year with a couple Webby Awards.

Hey Ryan. Cool pics man. I like the one of Jay with his head turned away outside. We should have a copy of the demo soon. Another piece of nostalgia.
